OK so this is a bit of an EXPERIMENT that's been going on for five years. This 'season' it's greening up after the WINTERrains when it filtered the rainwater and absorbed any BIRDshit etc. that might have accumulated. Several times over winter we spotted possums cavorting on it but opinion seems to have settled on them looking for some level ground for their relationship building/consummation. ANYway it seems that this ELEVATEDpatch has proved that this 'method' is a viable way to put a roof on a structure to collect and do a FIRSTfilter for INCOMEwater. Roger Fay asks about the downpipe ... WHAT FOR?? ... This is an experiment and the water is not collected except sometimes in a bucket ... IF one was collecting the water there'd be a range of options .... here I'm looking to see what grows if you do NOthing and the answer is all sorts of stuff so no need for a PLANTout actually ... The roof is FLAT so its SOAKthrough and runoff isn't a problem ... HOWEVER IF collecting water that could be arranged ... SOILdepth = 100mm ... With a bit of fertiliser one might be able to harvest all kinds of 'greens' ... BITTERherbs.
